Big-wig Seahawks make 10-year-old’s birthday

During the Seahawks pre-game show on Thursday, General Manager John Schneider told KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson about all the great Seahawks fans that showed up for the game in Arizona. One of the fans he mentioned was a 10-year-old girl who made the trip.
Edie Markquart was in Arizona for a tenth birthday trip. She tells Dori that her family has a tradition of celebrating each one of the kids’ big 1-0’s with a trip somewhere.
“My parents took me to Arizona because I just really like the Seahawks,” says Edie.
She and her family showed up early for the game and got the opportunity to meet some of the organization’s leaders. A bright green sign that read “Best 10th B-Day Ever – Go Hawks” got the attention of Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll.
“He signed my poster,” says Edie. “I felt like I was frozen. I felt like my whole entire face was red.”
They also got a taste of the gum Carroll is always chewing on the sideline.
“He threw up a bunch of pieces of gum and my dad got one.”
What kind of gum was it?
“Bubble Yum,” is apparently the coach’s chewing gum of choice, Edie reveals.
The next guy that approached her, she didn’t recognize. He asked who her favorite player was.
“I had no idea who he was so I said, ‘You.’ Then he said he’s not a player, so then I said, “Marshawn Lynch.”
The 10-year-old in a Lynch jersey later learned she was meeting Seahawks General Manager John Schneider. Schneider gave her a football and wished her a happy birthday.
After the experience, it seems the message on Edie’s sign definitely proved accurate. She says her Seahawks experience was the best tenth birthday ever. She tells Dori there’s no way her two younger siblings will be able to top it.
