Mariners sign Carlos Guillen to minor league contract
The Mariners have signed veteran utility man Carlos Guillen to a minor league deal that includes an invitation to spring training, the team announced Wednesday.
Guillen, 36, is a .285 hitter in 14 major league seasons. He missed much of last season due to knee and wrist injuries, hitting .232 in 28 games with the Tigers.
The deal brings Guillen back to where he began his career in 1998. In 488 games with the Mariners from 1998-2003, Guillen hit .264 with 80 doubles, 16 triples, 29 home runs and 211 RBIs. He spent the last eight seasons with the Tigers, making three All-Star teams.
Guillen becomes the 17th player the Mariners have signed to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training.
