It’s time to get outside and explore, especially since parking is free at Washington State Parks on April 22 for Earth Day. No Discover Pass needed.
Expect more people on the trails and a few obstacles getting there.
For example, if you are planning on visiting Deception Pass in Oak Harbor, part of SR 20 will be closed for the start of The Whidbey Island Marathon. On Saturday, April 16, the SR 20 bridge over Pass Island will be closed for runners 6:30- 7:15 a.m.
Over 16,000 participants are expected to descend on quaint Oak Harbor for the race. This course is an “open road” course, meaning runners are sharing the roads with cars all day on Saturday. So stay alert and look for flaggers and volunteers directing traffic.
