No death penalty in murder of Renton grandparents

Aug 30, 2013, 12:55 PM | Updated: 1:30 pm

Michael Boysen, 27, is charged with aggravated murder for strangling his grandparents, Norma and Robert Taylor.

A Renton man, charged with killing his grandparents just hours after his release from prison last March, will not face the death penalty.

Michael Boysen, 27, is charged with aggravated murder for strangling Norma and Robert Taylor, who had picked him up from the prison in Monroe. They hosted a welcome home party that night and were found strangled in their home the next day, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office. Boysen reportedly stole their car and was arrested three days later in Lincoln City, Ore.

In a statement, King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg did not explain what prompted his decision, except to say he reviewed the case and consulted with the victims’ family.

Recently, his attorney claimed Boysen was depressed over conditions in the jail and would not oppose the death penalty.

Boysen is scheduled for trial in January and if convicted, would be sentenced to life in prison with no chance of release.
