Seattle Police Department Hempfest Doritos going for big bucks on eBay

Aug 19, 2013, 11:42 AM | Updated: 12:35 pm

The Seattle Police Department got plenty of attention for giving away Doritos at last weekend’s Hempfest with stickers about the state’s new pot laws. And they turned out to be so popular, some budding (pun intended) entrepreneurs are selling them for over $50 on eBay.

One seller – who goes by the user name 1952geezer – has now gotten 19 bids for eight of the empty snack-sized bags handed out by police Saturday at the annual festival. You’d have to be pretty baked to buy them. But someone clearly is enamored with “Operation Orange Fingers,” as bidding has reached $53 as of Monday.

“These bags are opened and some have slight food residue because they were treated as litter,” says the listing.

For the value shopping stoner, the top bid for a single unopened bag offered by another seller has reached $41.

The department gave out 1,000 bags of the tortilla chips in a humorous effort to help raise awareness about the new marijuana laws approved by voters last November. They were snapped up in less than 30 minutes.

Not to harsh anyone’s buzz, but the Seattle Police Department is seriously undercutting the market. The SPD has posted a high-resolution sticker on its blog. For a couple of bucks, you can print out the sticker and get your own bag of chips.

The sticker offers some important Dos and Don’ts.

The Don’ts included “Don’t drive while high,” and “Don’t use pot in public. You could be cited but we’d rather give you a warning.”

And the Dos? “Do listen to Dark Side of the Moon at a reasonable volume.”

As the SPD advises, just make sure if you want to be all that and a bag of chips, don’t buy Bugles (listen here for a lengthy debate about Bugles and why they are being singled out in this episode of the John Curley Show with Andrew Walsh.
