Seattle Mayor McGinn gets schooled, shows skills against NBA players

Jul 29, 2013, 1:31 PM | Updated: 2:23 pm

We’ve heard plenty of talk from Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn about his basketball skills. And now we’re getting a little look – albeit not a very fair judge considering he’s playing with a bunch of NBA stars.

Suffice it to say the mayor got schooled, but earned plenty of admiration with a stellar offensive move in the charity all-star game hosted Sunday by Seattle NBA star Jamal Crawford’s basketball Pro-Am.

The annual summer league brings together the best players from around the city and country, featuring current and former NBA, international, minor league, and collegiate players.

The video on YouTube shows McGinn getting left in the dust by a vicious crossover move from Tyreke Evans of the New Orleans Pelicans that had him flailing at air. But McGinn more than redeems himself immediately after with a full court dribble followed by a beautiful no-look pass to a streaking teammate, who converts the layup and draws a wild cheer from the crowd at Seattle Pacific University.

The mayor’s been getting lots of support in his re-election bid from basketball fans for his efforts to bring the NBA back to Seattle. But if he loses his job this fall, maybe he’s got a future as a point guard (as long as he doesn’t have to defend NBA stars.)
