Some may have given up on bringing a professional basketball team in Seattle, but one former SuperSonic still has hope.

Gary Payton tells socalsportsmedia.com that Seattle won't be missing professional basketball for much longer.

"I want to get a team back there. I think we've got a lot of people that are really on board for that," said Payton. "We're eligible to do that in September of next year, so we're going to be OK. I think it's going to happen."

Payton says getting an NBA team back in Seattle is his biggest focus right now.

Shortly after the Sonics left town for Oklahoma City, Payton predicted the Emerald City would have a new team by the end of 2011. Seattleites are hoping that prediction wasn't too far off.
