Seattle police have arrested a man who allegedly sexually assaulted and robbed an elderly woman at knifepoint Wednesday in the International District.

Police say the suspect was spotted by an officer around 7:00 a.m. Thursday near 6th Avenue South and South Dearborn Street in the International District. The 34-year-old suspect was arrested without incident and booked into the King County Jail.

The suspect was under supervision by the Department of Corrections for a 2008 robbery and burglary, says police spokesman Jeff Kappel.

The 80-year-old woman was walking in the back door of an apartment complex Wednesday when a man followed her inside. Kappel says the man punched the woman in the head and body, knocked her to the ground, sexually assaulted her, then stole her money before running away.

The woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.

Police say the suspect was captured on security video Wednesday and at the same location on Friday, July 19th. In the July 19th incident, the suspect forcefully stole a purse from a female victim inside the apartment building.
