Police say a cab driver was killed early Friday morning when an SUV driver blew through a red light and smashed into the taxi.

The crash happened at 5:50 a.m. on Auburn Way North, according to Commander Mike Hirman with the Auburn Police Department.

Hirman says investigators are treating the scene as a DUI, but have yet to confirm drugs or alcohol were involved.

Both the SUV driver and a female passenger were injured with serious, but non life-threatening injuries. They were transported to Auburn Regional Medical Center.

The intersection of Auburn Way and Main Street remained closed throughout the morning for the investigation.
