Mattel manufacturing almost true-to-movie Back to the Future hoverboard
Posted by Alyssa

The premonitions of the classic film trilogy Back to the Future are coming true. First, Nike created self-lacing sneakers. Now, Mattel will finally release the hoverboard.
It won't hover so much as it will glide, say the toy manufacturers, but it will be a replica of what Michael J. Fox's Marty McFly rode while evading the futuristic bullies in Back to the Future: Part II.
According to SlashFilm.com, Mattel introduced the hoverboard at the New York Toy Fair over the weekend, but say that the actual hover technology won't be available until 2015, when the film takes place.
The first hoverboard will be available for Christmas 2012, but you'll need to pre-order it between March 1 and 20. Mattel says the board will cost so much to make, they'll need to get enough orders before they send it into production. If not enough folks pony-up, those that did pre-order won't get charged.
WARNING: Mattel says gliding feature will not work over water.
Happy Hovering!
