Macklemore, Ryan Lewis star in video for Nature Conservancy campaign

May 20, 2013, 9:36 AM | Updated: 11:54 am

Seattle musicians Macklemore and Ryan Lewis have offered their voices to the All Hands on Earth campaign from The Nature Conservancy.

The program offers ideas on small things people can do to help the world. Ideas range from shopping at local farmer’s markets to taking shorter showers.

In the video message from the rap duo, Macklemore says as a kid growing up in Seattle he spent tons of time outside and Seattle parks were where he really learned to rap.

“I grew up in the 80s,” said Macklemore. “So it was really before this age of technology that gave you purpose and reason to stay inside all the time […] We kicked it, we played games, we did sports. Everything was done outside. So there was an appreciation for nature.”

The All Hands On Earth website says the rapper thinks kids should spend more time outdoors and offers ideas to get them engaged at naturerocks.org.
