Boeing told 1,500 Puget Sound area technology workers on Monday they will be losing their jobs or have to move somewhere else.
Boeing confirmed the news during a two-hour webcast, The Puget Sound Business Journal reported.
Most of those impacted by the move are non-union workers who support the company’s computer systems and networks around the globe.
Boeing currently employs about 4,700 IT workers in the Puget Sound area. But the company says it’ll be months before many learn where they’ll have to move to keep their jobs.
A company spokesman says Boeing will concentrate its IT operations around the Puget Sound area, Charleston, S.C. and Saint Louis.
It’s just the latest move to cut the company’s head count. Last month Boeing announced it plans to eliminate up to 1,700 engineering positions, with an estimated 700 engineers losing their jobs.
In March, the company said it would lay off 800 workers in the Commercial Airplanes group on the production line. The company plans to eliminate around 1,500 more positions through attrition and retirements.
