Intruder stabbed to death in struggle with residents of North Bend home

May 13, 2013, 6:08 AM | Updated: 2:38 pm

An intruder who was stabbed to death early Monday at a North Bend home is apparently the same man who robbed a woman in the house Sunday, but King County sheriff’s investigators don’t know who he is, why the house was targeted or why he came back.

“This is a weird deal, just a bizarre case,” said sheriff’s spokeswoman Sgt. Cindi West. “I know some people said there’s no such thing as a random home invasion, but this does appear to be that at this time, and why if this is the same suspect that he came back, we don’t know yet.”

The King County sheriff’s office says the residents were awakened about 2 a.m. Monday by a barking dog. A man and wife, baby, and mother-in-law were inside the home. The man who got up to tend to the dogs found the intruder in the home and got into a struggle with the suspect.

“Apparently he got into quite a physical struggle with the subject and at some point the wife got involved to help,” says King County Sheriff Sgt. Cindi West.

Authorities believe the wife fatally stabbed the intruder. West says the family is upset after the struggle.

The intruder is probably the same person who entered the house through an unlocked door Sunday afternoon, just about 12 hours earlier, when the wife was home with her daughter and mother. The robber assaulted her and got away with cash.

She didn’t get a good look at him because her hair was grabbed from behind, West said.

Deputies searched the area with a tracking dog but were unable to find the suspect Sunday. Authorities are trying to determine for sure if it was the same person.

Investigators don’t believe the residents know the intruder and there’s nothing to indicate why the house was attacked. There’s no marijuana growing in the home, for example, West said.

“We have not seen anything that would explain why this house was targeted,” she said.

The dead intruder was not immediately identified. Deputies who work in the area don’t recognize him, West said. There was no vehicle found associated with the man.
