More and more people are becoming interested in the path from farm to table. If you want to get an up-close look at a local food creator, there’s an opportunity this weekend.

Eatonville’s Mountain Lodge Farm will be opening their gates for a one-day open house for visitors on Saturday. Farm owner Sherwin Ferguson says it’s a lively time of year on their farm, which specializes in making goat cheese.

“As of this morning, we have 115 babies that have hit the ground since March 1,” Ferguson tells KIRO Radio’s Let’s Eat.

The farm’s goats produced one set of quints, seven sets of quads, seventeen sets of triplets, fourteen sets of twins, and three singles this year.

“We tell our girls please, one or two is fine, but they’re a lot of overachievers,” says Ferguson.

The farm gets tons of requests from people interested in seeing how things run, but with 10 to 12 hours of chores a day, Ferguson says it can be difficult. But when they do see a window where it might be possible, they like to open up to the public.

May 11 is one of those lucky days where visitors will get a glimpse at the goats and the cheese-making process in action.

“They can pet goats. They can taste cheese. They can wander through the barns,” says Ferguson.

The open house will be held from noon to 2 p.m. and Let’s Eat host Providence Cicero, who’s visited the farm previously, says she thinks it would be a great Mother’s Day weekend outing. Providence has even more reason to visit now after some fun news from Ferguson.

“Two little boys were born this morning, and we’re going to name one Providence and one Cicero.”

Look for Providence and Cicero, among the hundred or so other baby goats, at the May 11 open house event at Mountain Lodge Farm. For more information visit mountainlodgefarm.com.

Let’s Eat airs on KIRO Radio Saturdays at 4 p.m. and Sundays at noon. Listen anytime ON DEMAND at KIRORadio.com.
