An assault suspect who stole a Seattle police car is in custody after crashing nearly two miles away.

Police say the man assaulted several people on a Metro bus near Aurora Ave. and Denny Way Thursday afternoon. The 35-year-old ran south through the Battery Street Tunnel, where police tried to stop him.

He turned on officers and attacked them before jumping in the patrol car and taking off through the Queen Anne neighborhood.

Police blocked him near 8th Ave. W and W. Olympic Place. The man crashed the stolen cop car into a retaining wall where they arrested him.

Police say the suspect appeared to be extremely intoxicated.

The Seattle Fire Department says medics treated one 50-year-old man on the bus for an undisclosed injury.
