Report: Bevell gets new contract from Seahawks
Darrell Bevell will return to the Seahawks as the team's offensive coordinator after interviewing for two head-coaching positions.
Bevell was in Tempe, Ariz. Wednesday meeting with the Cardinals. ESPN reports he withdrew his name from consideration when the Seahawks gave him a new contract. ESPN and other outlets are reporting the Cardinals will hire Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians. The Cardinals have the league's lone remaining head-coaching vacancy.
Bevell also interviewed with the Bears, who instead hired former CFL coach Marc Trestman. The Jaguars had requested and received permission to interview Bevell. Jacksonville hired Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley Thursday.
Bevell's return maintains continuity on the Seahawks' offensive coaching staff and spares team from having to replace both coordinators. Seattle could lose defensive line coach Todd Wash should he join his close friend Bradley in Jacksonville.
John Idzik, Seattle's vice president of football administration, is reportedly a front-runner to become the Jets' general manager. Idzik's primary responsibility has been helping manage the Seahawks' salary cap.
