Thoughts on Tebow as backup option for Seahawks

Here's what we know about the situation at backup quarterback for the Seahawks:

General manager John Schneider said Seattle is open to trading Matt Flynn, telling "Brock and Salk" on Tuesday that the team views him as a starter and that it will listen if another team makes an offer.

A day earlier, coach Pete Carroll told reporters that the Seahawks have discussed the idea of adding a backup with enough mobility to run the zone read should starter Russell Wilson go down.

That's why some – including Brock Huard – think one option for Seattle is Tim Tebow, who is expected to be traded or released after a tumultuous season with the Jets.

I don't think Tebow will be a problem if he's clearly a back up and we don't use him for certain plays of games or lead him to believe he's got a shot at starting unless Russell goes down. I do think he can be unneeded drama in a way, though, and you can get someone similar who doesn't create such a wave.

I'm so sick of hearing about the need for a "read option" QB. There's a primary "option" I want the backup QB to be able to do, and that is the option of throwing the bleeping football. That's something Tebow cannot do. Besides, read option is just a tool in Russell Wilson's toolbox, that's not a primary scheme he runs and the offense isn't going to go haywire if the backup isn't able to run it.

No - Tebow is not even a possibility. Carroll and the exec team are too smart to do that. Matt Flynn is worth the money.

Might as well just have Leon or one of the other RB's as the backup qb then...they have to be at least as accurate and probably throw a better ball. Mike Rob was a qb in college, why hasn't he thrown a pass yet?

I hope Flynn stays but thats got to be tough on him. I would like Charlie Back. Seahawks kinda screwed him over so maybe he won't want to come back. We don't need three QBs that is a given. I like Tebow as a person as a QB well I don't know maybe be good for a back up. It's hard to say he might be are best option?.

I am not one of the haters of Tebow...
The guy is an athlete. Keep in mind that he also actually won a playoff game with Denver. Something even Manning couldn't do. OUCH! (I know, right.)
Taking Tarvaris over Tebow? Good golly. How desperate have you become, Salk? Tebow has never been given the rope Tarvaris had here and in Minnesota. Tarvaris is the worst of the worst.
However, it is what it is. Tebow has in a way been black listed since his college days and the "controversial" Ad he and his mom appeared in. Like I said, it is what it is!
With that said, if no one wants to give the guy a real chance as a starting QB, there are other positions he would most likely succeed at without all the media hate and pile on.
Add a few pounds and the guy could be a tight end. Lose a few more and he could be a receiver. Either way, he has wheels and athleticism. Don't let the idiot talking heads in the media tell you differently.
Matt Flynn is paid way too much as a back up. He is an unproven quality starter. Trade him while his stock is high. But, since his stock is high YTD, make the best trade one can make. It makes no sense what so ever to keep Flynn at the salary he is being paid. Wait until all offers are on the table, unless one comes along that just can't be ignored.
Besides, Chicago and Jacksonville, though they publicly deny it, have more need and interest in Tebow than Seattle.

Tarvaris is twice the Quarterback Tebow is. Theres no discussion or argument. Its right in front of your face. Tarvaris Jackson is not a starting QB. But he sure as heII can Quarterback better than Tebow.

I am not a Tebow hater either. I don't think it would be a distraction, before he came here he would have to accept the backup role, which I don't see much alternative for him, but he could be useful in many ways and no one can deny he has won at every level, not the Superbowl, but neither have the Seahawks. I wouldn't throw it out as fast as some people, plus get a good pick for Flynn and use the cash to entice a free agent or pay someone they need to stay.

Tebow has made it clear that he wants to be a quarterback in the NFL. One comment points out that he would make a good tight end. I think that is very true. But Tebow won't do that. I don't want the Seahawks to turn into a circus like the Jets did and Denver almost became. Elway pulled Denver out of that Tebow sandtrap by getting Manning under contract.

He will never be a QB. His skill set and body type tells me he could be a full back or a tight end, but he has no training in it at this level. Why waste a valuable spot on the 53 man roster for this guy? He could not even beat out most of the UFA's John finds at the small schools. AWFUL idea!
