Did you catch Seahawk Russell Wilson’s Super Bowl commercial cameo?

We would have rather seen him throwing on the field, but the Seahawks’ Russell Wilson did make a Super Bowl cameo Sunday, appearing briefly in a commercial for American Family Insurance.

The spot features the Seahawks’ star quarterback tossing a ball around with a kid in the backyard, his trademark smile beaming large.

The commercial, which didn’t air nationally on CBS but ran in 50 markets across the country during the game, also features 2012 American Idol winner Phillip Phillips, pro-golf veteran Steve Stricker and 2010 Winter Olympics hockey silver-medalist Jessie Vetter.

“Russell Wilson captured the imagination of people across the country this past year,” American Family CEO Jack Salzwedel said in the company’s announcement. “He had big dreams that came true because he wouldn’t let any obstacles get in the way.”

Wilson electrified the NFL in his rookie season, leading the Seahawks to the second round of the playoffs despite being picked in the third round of the 2012 draft, far behind a number of other quarterbacks including Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III. Wilson finished third over the weekend in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting.

Wilson recently signed an endorsement deal with the insurer.

Wilson already had an inside track on a deal with the company. AmFam said Wilson’s wife Ashton worked at its Madison, Wisc. headquarters when Wilson was a senior at the University of Wisconsin.
