Eric Williams of The News Tribune joins "Bob and Groz" from the scouting combine and discusses a few prospects who could be of interest to the Seahawks.

Eric Williams of The News Tribune was full of information on several NFL prospects and their potential fits with the Seahawks when he joined Bob Stelton and Jason Stiles from the scouting combine on Monday.

One of them was Jordan Poyer, a consensus All-American defensive back from Oregon State whom Williams thinks could make an immediate impact as a nickelback. Among the reasons Poyer might appeal to the Seahawks, Williams thinks, is his versatility; he played safety at Oregon State before moving to cornerback, and he sometimes moved inside to cover slot receivers.

Poyer finished with seven interceptions last season, tied for second-most in the nation.

Williams said Poyer has drawn comparisons to Rams cornerback Cortland Finnegan because of the aggressive and fiery nature they share.

"A lot of the receivers that I talked to, when they talked about the guy that was the toughest guy to go against, Poyer was a name that was mentioned a lot," Williams said.

Protecting Russell Wilson

The Hawks biggest need is pass rush as everyone knows. If the pass rushing specialist is not the highest rated player on the board, the Hawks should consider taking an offensive tackle? I am a big fan of drafting offensive lineman and defensive lineman early. Does anyone remember Steve Hutchinson? It would not hurt my feelings one bit if the Hawks went offensive tackle. It would be nice to have book-end tackles. I like the idea of protecting your number one asset(Russell Wilson). Plus it would not hurt to have an offensive tackle that could slide over to left tackle in case Russell Okung went down. The Hawks do have a need at nickel corner. But the Seahawks front office has a track record of finding good corners later in the draft. I am a big fan of going offensive line or defensive line early in the draft. I like to dominate the line of scrimmage. You win the game in the trenches.

I totally agree with your draft strategy. I think it behooves us to have a dominant o line similar to when Hutch and Jones were on there. If we can match what SF is doing to their D line, we'd be better off for it too. JS and PC's MO is to draft for need in the 1st and 2nd rounds, then draft specialty players like a WR/CB in the later rounds. It's not sexy, but it's the quickest way to continue to be sustainable over a longer period of time, if you draft correct guys to fit your scheme. Seattle's scheme is being mimicked by a lot of teams, so the chances we can get players in the rough are getting harder to find, but I have faith that JS and PC will find them. Go Hawks!

The first thing PC / JS did three years ago was rebuild the offensive line and in case you missed last year we protected RW well and had a 1,500 rusher. While I agree it's paramount to have solid foundation first, we did that already. Sure they will take some more OL to solidify depth, but a starting tackle is not even close to top priority. With our situation they the have option to take best player available at *any* position, but our needs are 1. DE, 2. DT, 3. OLB, and 4. 4th receiver, in that order....

Last year Russell Wilson was sacked 33 times including 6 times during the Rams game. I guess you are comfortible with Russell Wilson on his back. BTW Breno Giacomini was almost benched because of his mental mistakes. Right now Frank Omiyale is our back up at offensive tackle. Guess you are ok with that. After free agency needs will change. Yes if Datone Jones is there, take him. If you have been reading my posts I have made it clear that our greatest concern is rushing the passer. John Schneider will find pass rushers either in free agency or the draft, or both. However, what if you have an offensive tackle rated higher than your defensive lineman? Do you reach for the defensive lineman or would you take an offensive tackle? BTW I do agree with your priority list. You could also throw in nickle corner and tight-end into the mix.

I agree with everyone that going for team needs ie. pass rush and protection are paramount. But, I just hope they don't try to press the issue and feel like they have to solve it in the draft. Which, I trust them not to. If they can't the sexy pick they want then they should fill what need they can with that pick and not reach. After the draft they can always shop around for a FA to patch the need as best as possible for a year or two and try again in the draft the next year and so on. Just my opinion that there's a good year or two left out there in the FA market.

Just want to clarify my position. I am sure that whatever John Schneider and Pete Carroll does will be the right choice. I just wanted to point out that the Hawks should not overlook the offensive line. Especially offensive tackle. BTW: John Clayton said that at least 6 offensive tackles will go in the first round. Mike Mayock said that offensive line is a position of strength in this draft. But if John Schneider took a defensive lineman in the first and second round I would be happy. You can't have enough good defensive lineman. You need offensive lineman to protect your QB. You need defensive lineman to get to the other teams QB. The game is won in the trenches.
