Seahawks made bold move with trade for Harvin

The Seahawks have given up draft picks before to acquire a 24-year-old offensive playmaker who had fallen out of favor with the team that drafted him in the first round.

That describes the trade Seattle made to acquire running back Marshawn Lynch in 2010 and the deal reportedly reached Monday that will send wide receiver Percy Harvin to Seattle.

The most notable difference: Harvin comes at a significantly greater cost.

The Seahawks gave up a fourth- and fifth-round pick for Lynch, whose contract wasn't set to expire for another two seasons. They're reportedly giving Minnesota their first- and seventh-round picks this year along with a mid-round pick next year for the right to sign Harvin to what is expected to be a lucrative new contract.

That qualifies this move as perhaps the boldest one made by coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider during their three seasons with the Seahawks.

I think he will bring that threat that we were missing last year in the slot position. However, I think this move effects Leon Washington the most.

Ok he wears #12 in Minnesota. He sure is heck isn't going to get that number here. Great trade, this kid is electric and will only open up the field for Tate, Rise, Miller, Marshawn, and Baldwin while probably lighting it up when he gets the ball. Wilson must be stoked. Go Hawks!!!

Championship Move...

This move puts everyone on notice that our time is NOW! not in 2 or 3 yrs, but RIGHT NOW!. 31 sec's away from the NFC Championship Game showed that this team was a player or two away from competing for a Championship THIS YEAR! Love the move, another true Pro-Bowler added to an already stellar group of hungry young players who know how very close they were last year. Vagas has us @ 5-1, along w/ the 49er's today,to be in the Super Bowl!Our time is NOW.....

Bold Moves make Champions.... Most of us are looking at our Seahawks as real contenders. Obviously so are Pete & John and it's time to play some serious cards...I like the move...I hope this young man will make the necessary moves to fit in and realize he's in a position to become a Super Bowl Champion and respond accordingly... Go Hawks !!

I believe adding Percy Harvin won't change Seattle's basic run-first philosophy as much as allow them to do more precise long-range planning and game-time adapting against opponents. 1. They now match-up better against opposing defenses, running more against weaker sevens and passing more against weaker secondaries. This should increase their regular season W-L record, especially against weaker opponents. 2. They can change better on-the-fly depending on injuries to their offense or the oponents' defense. This should increase their chances of winning close games against SF and post-season opponents. 3. Having Harvin will get them more first downs, meaning longer offensive possessions, meaning less time on-the field for opposing offenses, meaning more chances for Seattle to score. 4. Harvin gives them flexibility in the kicking games because of his sure-handedness, speed and elusiveness in the open field, eg better starting field position. I think playing for a contender with a good locker room and working with Russell Wilson will do a lot to smooth over Harvin's ruffled reputation.
