GM: Marshawn Lynch will be with Seahawks in 2012

General manager John Schneider has erased any doubt about whether or not Marshawn Lynch will be with the Seahawks in 2012.

Lynch-stats According to Clare Farnsworth of Seahawks.com, Schneider told reporters at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis on Thursday that the team will place the franchise tag on their free-agent running back if both sides can't agree to a multi-year deal, meaning Lynch will be in a Seahawks uniform for at least another season.

Lynch, who turns 26 in April, is coming off the best season of his five-year career, rushing for 1,204 yards and 12 touchdowns in 15 games with the Seahawks. He made the Pro Bowl as a second alternate.

Schneider said both sides prefer a multi-year deal and have had "great discussions" since mid-December that will continue Thursday evening in Indianapolis, according to Farnsworth.

A source familiar with the negotiations told 710 ESPN Seattle's Brock Huard that the team would be comfortable giving Lynch a multi-year deal that includes roughly $20 million in guaranteed money.

March 5 is the deadline for teams to apply the franchise tag, which equates to a one-year, guaranteed contract once the player signs the tender. For running backs, the franchise figure for 2012 is $7.7 million.

This multi-year deal with $20 million guaranteed is scary at first, but it will pay off in the long run. We've been burned before with Shawn Alexanders age and lack of explosiveness, but Marshawn is a completely different athlete. I have confidence he is going to run over linemen for the next four years as a Seahawk.

Shawn was paid for pass performances. Not for what the future would bring. Once he got paid, that was it. If he heard foot steps he would go down or to the sidelines. Marshawn likes to punish tacklers. And to be honest w/ you, Tackling is HARD! You got to WANT TO tackle someone. Just think if Marshawn had the O-Line that Shawn had? Hell, he would've rushed for 3k yards! I say PAY THE MAN! He's got 5 times more gas still in the tank than Shawn ever had.

the cut to the franchise tag amount would be before accepting the new CB rules?
Lynch would have been eligible for over $9,000,000 in 2011 under the old formula.
Me thinks there will be some UNHAPPY tagged players for the next few years.
However, in ML's case, doubling his salary especially when it is in the $X,000,000's range aint nothing to be to perturbed about.
If they tag him, of course.....

Marshawn proved he's a feature back last season with 1200 yards and 12 touchdowns, but what he brought to the Seahawks was more than just his onfield production. In 2011 Lynch gave the Seahawks an identity (Beast Mode), Receivers became blockers on running plays, O-Lineman continued there blocks downfield and took alot of pride in a 3 yard run for a 1st down, the same runs a year ago that were getting stuffed for 1 yard and a punt, Even the defense bought in making sure every opponent new they were in for a knock the snot out of you game if you played the Seahawks, everyone on the team grew a couple of inchs and put on 25 pounds, there was a swagger in there step and a confidence in there attitude. I'm not saying Marshawn was the whole reason, but when you have a teamate that practices and plays as hard every down as he does, it rubs off and pretty soon that expectation is not just the coaching staff's its the guy beside you on the line and the guy on the sideline who's waiting for his chance, and that is what makes a team a contender and even a Champion.

let's not forget the patchwork O-line with all the changes and Tom Cable who is every bit as good an O-line coach as Mike Solari , Keith Gilbertson, and some of the greats... Like the other poster typed, imagine if Lynch had been running behind Walter Jones, Steve Hutchinson, Robbie Tobeck, Chris Grey and Sean Locklear !

a lot of Stephen Jackson is Marshawn Lynch, I mean both guys are big bruising (so far) durable backs, I mean maybe Lynch could be playing great well past 30 like Jackson is????
