Report: TE Visanthe Shiancoe to visit Seahawks

Free-agent tight end Visanthe Shiancoe will visit with the Seahawks "within the next few days," according to Steve Wyche of the NFL Network.

Mutual interest between Shiancoe and the Seahawks should come as no surprise.

Seattle could be looking to add a backup to Zach Miller after John Carlson signed a five-year deal with the Vikings on Wednesday.

Shiancoe would find plenty of familiar faces -- and plays -- in Seattle. He spent the last five seasons in Minnesota, where he played with current Seahawks Tarvaris Jackson, Sidney Rice and Heath Farwell. Darrell Bevell was his offensive coordinator for four seasons.

Shiancoe, 31, caught 36 passes for 409 yards and three touchdowns in 2011. From 2008-09, he caught 98 passes for 1,162 yards and 18 touchdowns. He hasn't missed a game during his nine-year career.

Anthony McCoy, Cameron Morrah and John Nalbone are the other tight ends on the Seahawks' roster.

To have two good or better TE's so we could run more of that ACE formation, 1 Back, 2 TE is a mismatch if you have two capable TE's.... but in reality, until they switch the trigger man its just more wasted high priced toys. Sign Visanthe if its reasonable money for his caliber. He made 3.1 in '11 so whats he worth now? Thats for management to figure out, but it would be a great signing if coupled with that proper trigger man.

I think I can recall Carlson catching a pass a couple of years ago. I CANNOT recall him performing blocking schemes with skill and fortitude, like Miller was called upon to perform during the last season. Goodbye Carlson. Good riddance.
An UPGRADE at 2nd TE will have a deep and profound positive influence on the offense. Miller would FLOURISH behind a competent offense. QB? Big question.

Still playing "tit for tat" with the Vikings. So silly. Carlson by far the better TE. Expect Carlson to be all pro this year. Nevertheless, Petey reaches his goal of getting rid of all the other guys players. I predict Pete will be gone after this years 3rd straight losing season.

he was injured last season and used as a stop gap for the line the season before. In the right system where he can be a target with a good QB he could do very well. Its not totally his fault these last couple of years. Look at Millers production last year, good blocking but no Pro Bowl performance. Its the system, not he player. I expect good things from Miller this year, as the system will open up with better protection and schemes.

About the sorry qb play? When do we stop blaming EVERY player on offense EXCEPT the quarterback? Look Hawk homers Jerry Rice would NEVER become Jerry Rice as we know him under No Yac Jackson... thats the REALITY! NOBODY will make the PB or All Pro with Tarvaris "pat & fade" Jackson as the trigger man. Stop with the pussy footing at the qb position and maybe this town might have something more than 7-9
