A Redmond woman has been arrested for stealing from her elderly parents and keeping her mother prisoner in the couple’s home.

After receiving a complaint, in 2011, police investigators discovered that the elderly woman was being restrained in a chair for up to 12 hours during the day and locked in a “crib-like” bed at night.

“It was kind of a modified, small little jail system for her,” said police officer Mike Dowd. “She’s not able to get out and the only way she’s able to get out is if somebody from the outside lets her out.”

Both elderly victims suffer from dementia. They’ve been relocated to an adult family care home.

Police say the woman, 65, had power of attorney and was a caregiver, living in the same apartment complex.

An investigation into their finances revealed that during 2010 and 2011, the suspect was taking more than $3,000 a month from her parents and spending it on herself. The woman was arrested Tuesday and released. Charges have not been filed.
