A man arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence had a “blank stare” on his face as he sped the wrong-way down I-5 Tuesday afternoon, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Troopers responded to reports of a white Geo Metro heading northbound in the southbound HOV lane of I-5 near the King-Pierce County line.
“The vehicle was going approximately 80 miles per hour, moving out onto the shoulder actually avoiding oncoming vehicles, but not making any attempts to change his direction,” Trooper Julie Judson said.
She said the driver traveled at least seven miles before exiting onto State Route 516, where troopers brought his vehicle to a stop.
Judson said drugs, alcohol, and mental illness may be factors.
No one was injured.
