Boeing’s CEO of Commercial Airplanes Ray Connor was in Japan Thursday to apologize for the issues that have grounded the 787 fleet, and he said the company has a permanent solution.

Connor met with the Japanese transport minister to talk about the fixes Boeing has proposed for its Dreamliner batteries. He apologized for the problems and the grounding and told his customers in Japan that he believes the planes will be flying soon.

“This solution takes into account any possible event that could occur, any causal factor that could cause an event, and we are very confident that we have a fix that will be permanent,” said Connor.

The FAA said Wednesday that any fix will likely require lengthy review and re-certification before the Dreamliner will be allowed to fly.

Most experts believe that could be April or May.
