Amanda Knox has maintained her silence since returning home from Italy a free woman. Now, she will have her first sit-down interview with ABC News.

Knox was a University of Washington student studying abroad in Italy when she and her then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were accused and convicted in 2009 of sexually assaulting and murdering Meredith Kercher, a 21-year-old British student who shared an apartment with Knox in Perugia.

Knox was convicted to 26 years, Sollecito to 25. Both had been in prison since Nov. 6, 2007, four days after Kercher’s body had been found at the apartment. They were released when their convictions were overturned on Oct. 3, 2011.

Knox returned to Seattle with her family the next day, and following a press conference at the airport, she had remained silent.

Trying to keep a low profile was difficult at first. Knox, dubbed “Foxy Knoxy” in the British tabloids, was followed by paparazzi for several months following her return to Seattle. Despite the worldwide attention on Knox, many Seattle news outlets refrained from contacting her out of respect for her privacy.

The announcement of Knox’s first interview with ABC News comes just as her book is slated to be released on April 30. The book, “Waiting to be Heard,” was announced last February and is reportedly worth $4 million.

Knox’s exclusive interview with Diane Sawyer will air during an ABC News Primetime Special on Tuesday, April 30 at 10 p.m.
