A little restaurant in Poulsbo is getting some national attention for the way it treated a family of five who came in on a busy Friday night. Although, this time it isn’t because of a nasty note left on the receipt. The server left a note of gratitude.

Owner Rob Scott tells KIRO Radio’s Andrew Walsh, they get a lot of parents at Sogno di Vino. Usually they’re alone, leaving the kids with a babysitter while mom and dad go out for “date night.” When children do walk through the doors of the small, Italian eatery, servers never know what to expect.

“Sometimes you can tell just when they walk in. You can tell whether it’s going to be fun, or it’s not going to be fun,” says Scott. “We’re ready for the worst.”

But when the King family sat down last week, Scott says he was impressed.

“The two, five and the eight-year-old (kids) were absolutely engaged with their family, talking with their mom and dad. Even the little girl in the highchair was awesome,” recalls Scott.

The server offered them free ice cream and on the receipt typed in a $4 discount for ‘Well Behaved Kids.’

Mom, Laura King, posted the receipt online. Her friends picked it up and shared it on their pages. Now, not only has the receipt gone viral, but Laura’s being asked for parenting advice.

Scott says it’s not unusual for Sogno di Vino to offer discounts or free ice cream to families, but it’s also not their regular policy. While he welcomes young children, he says there are some families who might be more comfortable somewhere else.

“There’s restaurants that are designed to go in and, you know, more family style restaurants, where you can go in and have fun,” says Scott. “Unfortunately, Sogno di Vino means ‘to dream of wine’ not ‘Chuck E. Cheese.'”
