Before we put our national crisis back into the national crisis freezer – to keep it fresh for next January – it’s worth looking at what we’ve learned.

What we’ve learned is that there is an economic enemy within the walls – an enemy bent on sabotage – which is pretty much what the president said in that speech Thursday.

“Probably nothing has done more damage to America’s credibility in the world than the spectacle we’ve seen these past several weeks,” said Obama.

But if he was looking to guilt the Tea Party Republicans into compromising between now and January, well, this woman has different plans.

“The enemy of America’s economic freedom is this fundamental transformation of America.”

That’s Sarah Palin on Fox – saying the enemy isn’t in the Congress, the enemy is in the White House.

“The enemy of the enemy is my friend, is any common-sense conservative’s friend,” said Palin.

Which means – she’s prepared to support Tea Party challengers to go up against any Republican who voted with the president on Wednesday night.

“Heck yeah, they’ve got to primaried otherwise we’re going down,” said Palin.

So she will be scouting for talent.

“I’ve been saying for years, competitive primaries make for a better political system. It makes people work harder and express more articulately what their record is and what their intentions for our country is,” said Palin.

Sounds pretty clear to me. We are destined to meet on this same spot again. And in the spirit of modern American politics, may the best enemy win.

Ross: Are we killing car culture? Or is car culture killing the US?

I don’t think the question is whether we're going to "kill" our car culture. The real question is can we stop our car culture from killing the U.S.?
