Actor Christian Bale has gotten plenty of negative publicity for his sometimes bad behavior. But the Dark Knight Rises star proved once again he has a heart of gold after making a special phone call to an 8-year-old cancer patient at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Zach Guillot faces an aggressive form of leukemia. But Bale made his day a little brighter last week when he surprised the avid Batman fan with a call as the youngster sat in his hospital bed.

His family posted a video on YouTube of their heartwarming conversation.

Zach told the 38-year-old actor he loves Batman and his younger brother even believes he is the real superhero.

“Oh really, you are?” Bale asked a slightly bashful Zach during the call.

“I have my own little Batmobile made out of cardboard, I’ve got the real mask and everything,” Zach gushed.

Bale replied: “Oh that’s fantastic. You know what? I had to give mine back. They wouldn’t let me keep mine. You’re lucky you get to have one and run around and tell people you are Batman.”

The Welsh-born actor told Zach his hometown in England is very similar to Seattle. “It’s kind of rainy,” he said.

The pair chatted about Zach dressing up as the Caped Crusader for Halloween, and Bale shared that his wife would dress up as Catwoman. The Academy Award Winner then encouraged Zach to continue dressing as Batman to make people “happy” and make the world a better place.

“Anybody can be Batman. Anybody can be as strong as that, and help people and put good out into the world,” Bale said.

A spokeswoman for Seattle Children’s says a family friend started the whole thing when he called Bale’s agent and told him what a big Batman fan Zach is.

It’s not the first time Bale has gone out of his way to cheer up a sick kid. Last September, he flew 4-year-old leukemia patient Jayden Barber and his family out to California for a special day at Disneyland.
