Perhaps the name of the obstacle should have been warning enough. Three participants in Poulsbo’s “Extreme K Mud Run” are suing over injuries suffered at the bottom of a slippery slide known as “Gravity’s Revenge.”

Their attorney describes the obstacle as a muddy, two-story chute, similar to a slippery slide.

“When they hit, the bottom, all their inertia came to a stop in a little rocky mud pit at the bottom and they all suffered severely fractured left ankles,” says James McCormick. He says his three clients signed a waiver but they didn’t assume the risk of what he calls a dangerous obstacle.

“And I think if we looked at the other obstacles on the course, or even other courses, this injury rate on this particular obstacle is extraordinary,” added McCormick.

No comment yet from event organizers and sponsors, including the Silverdale Chamber of Commerce, Royal Farms, where the event was held last October and Macerich Co. The lawsuit was filed in Kitsap County Superior Court.

McCormick says the obstacle was abandoned only after medics requested its closure.
