Drivers should expect detours and delays this weekend because of two ramp closures near the interchange of I-5 and the West Seattle Bridge.
Contractors replacing expansion joints need to close the southbound I-5 ramp to the West Seattle Bridge and the ramp from westbound Columbian Way to the West Seattle Bridge.
“We’re asking drivers to add about 10 to 15 minutes onto their trip. We’ll have detours in place,” says Broch Bender with the Washington State Department of Transportation.
Bender says this is the first of eleven weekend closures in the area.
“We’re replacing 31 expansion joints on this interchange. The interchange is about 50 years old. It was built in the 60’s and these big steel expansion joints that connect the sections of the elevated roadway are nearing the end of their useful life.”
The ramps will close Friday at 10 p.m. and reopen Monday morning at 5 a.m.
