Seattle rapper Macklemore goes platinum

Seattle rapper Macklemore has achieved a feat that’s on the ambition list of every music artist: he’s gone platinum.
“Woke up to the news Thrift Shop has gone PLATINUM…GUESS WHO’S GOING TO GOODWILL TODAY!?!” tweeted Macklemore on Thursday.
The song “Thrift Shop,” about Goodwill shopping, performed by Macklemore, aka Ben Haggerty, and DJ Ryan Lewis, has just passed the 1 million sales mark and is currently sitting at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The video for the song is also a hit with more than 42 million views on YouTube.
Macklemore, 29, was born in Seattle. He’s an alumnus of Tops, Garfield, Nathan Hale, and Seattle Central in Seattle.
The Stranger reports only one other Seattle rap artist has achieved platinum sales, with Sir Mix-a-lot and his 90’s hit “Baby Got Back.”
