If you want to avoid a drunk driver in Seattle, it might be best to stick to the side streets.
ProjectKnow.com — a website dedicated to informing people about addiction and treatment options — took a look at Seattle’s DUI data and came up with a map of where the most DUI arrests occurred in the city during 2015.
Looking at the map, certain neighborhoods and streets pop out — particularly oft-traveled thoroughfares. Downtown Seattle lights up the brightest, with a trail of arrests branching off along Rainier Avenue and the West Seattle Bridge.
Ballard, Fremont, and the University District appear to have higher DUI numbers. Montlake Boulevard over the canal is a bottleneck where folks are commonly pulled over. Aurora Avenue, Lake City Way, and NW 15th Avenue also seem to be popular stretches for DUI arrests — especially 15th Avenue which is included in three out of the six worst locations in Seattle when it comes to DUIs, according to Project Know.
The website also took a deep look at the University District where 88 arrests happened around the University of Washington campus — most around 45th Street.
Seattle’s six DUI hotspots
• Aurora Avenue and North 85th Street (32 arrests)
• 15th Avenue NW and 85th Street (16 arrests)
• Lake City Way and NE 145th Street (16 arrests)
• Broadway and East Pike Street (13 arrests)
• 15th Avenue NW and 65th Street NW (11 arrests)
• 15th Avenue NW and Market Street NW (11 arrests)
