A potentially deadly virus in King County has prompted the City of Everett to close its three off-leash dog parks as a precaution.
Howarth Park at 1127 Olympic Blvd, Loganberry Lane Park at the end of 18th Avenue West, and Lowell Park at 46th Street and S. 3rd Avenue are closed for fear of Canine Parvovirus.
The city says recent reports indicate veterinarians in King County have seen a spike in the number of cases. The City of Everett has also received an unconfirmed report of a handful of cases in local off-leash parks.
The virus can be found up to two weeks before a dog shows any symptoms. It can contaminate the ground, dishes, collars, leashes, and the hands and clothing of people who handle the infected dog.
Parvovirus symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, and lethargy.
