Former Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch says he’s done playing football in the NFL.

“I’m retired. Is that good enough? … I’m done. I’m not playing football anymore,” he told 60 Minutes Sports.

His mother, Delisa, isn’t convinced.

When asked by Seattle’s Morning News if he is retired for good, Delisa says it’s tough to tell with Marshawn.

“I hope so, but I doubt it,” she said. Nothing is definite, she added. “He’ll surprise you at the blink of an eye.”

Though she didn’t know of her son’s retirement until everyone else found out, it’s a topic of conversation that, apparently, has come up again and again.

“He said it every year,” Delisa explained. “Every year since he’s been in the league has been his last year.”

His announcement still came as a bit of a shock, however. She says she cried when Marshawn once again said he was retired during his 60 Minutes interview.

“I love Seattle,” she said. “I love the people in Seattle. I’ve made so many friends.”

Whether permanent or not, it looks as though Marshawn is enjoying retirement. Delisa couldn’t provide exact information on where or what her son was doing on Thursday, but it had something to do with a helicopter in France.

“He’s been traveling like crazy,” she said.

Lynch announced his retirement via a cryptic tweet during the fourth quarter of last year’s Super Bowl. He was placed on the Seahawks’ retired/reserved list in May.

If he’s truly done with the NFL, Lynch ends his career with 9,112 rushing yards in the regular season. That’s 36th best in the league’s history. He scored 51 rushing touchdowns between 2011 and 2015. He had four consecutive seasons where he rushed for at least 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns.
