With No I.D., Bigger Problems than Voting

Left-wing activists have launched a ferocious fight against laws in more than twenty states that require a photo ID in order to vote. Most recently, billionaire William Louis-Dreyfuss took out a full page ad in the New York Times to announce his own million dollar contribution to battle what he calls "racist" voter suppression.

Such hysterical claims ignore research from the Carter Center of Emory University, in a paper signed by former President Carter himself, finding less than 2 percent of eligible voters who lacked proper ID. Rather than buying ads and funding lawsuits, wouldn't liberals more wisely invest their resources in helping such people get the identification they need? If you don't have a photo ID, you can't cash checks, ride airplanes, or drive cars, and you've got far bigger problems than being unable to vote.

    Requiring Photo ID
Is looking for a problem that doesn't exist. Even the Republicans arguing for the ID law in court couldn't come up with any evidence of fraud.

Medved needs no facts - he'd rather blissfully ignore 'the rest of the story'
MANY people live without ID in the very poor portions of this country. they don't have bank accounts, don't have drivers licenses, don't ever fly on airplanes and many probably haven't been more than a couple hundred miles from where they live today. But those people don't count unless they fit into the imaginary set of rules that Medved and other blindly right wing thinking folks have built around this very 'problem that doesn't exist'. Now if the right wing could actually prove a significant problem actually exists - USING FACTS TO PROVE THE POINT, NOT WITH RHETORIC AND INNUENDO - then even the most left wing of us would more than likely agree that it would be the right thing to do. But so far, the only 'proof' they have is a few isolated cases of individuals doing the wrong thing and LOTS AND LOTS OF RHETORIC.

    Fathom the HYPOCRISY
Of a Government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured...but not everyone must prove they are a citizen. And now, any of those who refuse, or are unable, to prove they are citizens will receive FREE insurance paid for by those who are forced to buy insurance BECAUSE THEY ARE CITIZENS. Democrats: constantly striving for a new level of HYPOCRISY!

What are you liberals afraid of?
The fact is that there are few people that don't have IDs. And there are very few people that are that poor. An ID is easy for anyone to get if they are not too lazy and really want to get one. Are you liberals afraid that if all States require IDs then dead people can't vote anymore? Or that people won't be able to vote more than once in a given election? It really cuts into all the "extra" votes liberals get illegally. My dear friend, you have fought for and put your life on the line for freedom and the American Way. I am sure you want it to work correctly. I am sure that you don't want a government where the leaders were put in there by false votes. No offense intended but the fact is that this is the only way to prevent fraud!

    Only 2%?
If my math serves me, that is over 3 million people.

    No big deal Mr. Medved?

    Disenfranchising over 3 million voters.

    To solve what problem, exactly?

Mr. Lawn - When did YOU last help someone get ID?
Or are your travels too taxing? The likely reason these people do not have photo ID is because they don't know how to get it or need help in some other way.

If you care enough - HELP THEM>

    What a silly notion, ron
Just stroll around asking people if they have ID?

I'd rather not be clubbed by a cane.

    Soooooooooooooooo,,,,,,,,,,,,,
If I carry a cane, I no longer need ID?

Right. Just wait until they show up to vote, then spring it on them. .........Oh, and don't contribute to any cause - that's the government's job.

Disenfranchising the dead voters that vote...
This is the only thing we want to do. It is not just 3 million voters, it is all the ones who vote from the Cemetery that we want to stop. Wonder how many that would disenfranchise?

Hey dummys it said 2% of eligible voters without ID.
It didn't say how many ineligible voters cast a ballot. Wouldn't that be the goal? To stop those type of votes. I'm sure we would have a different govenor in this state. Look no farther then King county.

The problem isn't voter fraud, it's the GOP erecting barriers to keep the poor from voting.

Is the billionaire father of multi-millionaire actress Jullia Louis-Dreyfuss who got rich doing a show about nothing. Maybe she can hire Kramer and Newman to drive the po' folks to wherever they're handing out the ID's.

Michael, that's whai I've said for years. Help those individuals.
Why is it that the left is more interested in keeping people in poverty and ignorance than helping them? ... Well we do know why, but............

Now, I'm an old guy. Dut get me a ticket to the Appalacian area and a car to use back there and I'd bet I could get photo ID for thousands by election day. .. And a thousand mes could get photo ID for over 2,000,000 easy. ... And that's about your 2%.

Please don't tell me there aren't a thousand people on the left (or right - no guarantee there people all would vote democrat) who would care enough to care. ............ Heck - there are probable a thousand lawyers fighting voted ID right now. Just PAY THEM what you're paying them for the law suits and problem solved.

I guess we've already conveniently forgotten last weeks story about the Florida GOP's voter registration conspiracy.
And yes, IT WAS a conspiracy. Nathan Sproul has pulled this kind of crap for years, in state after state. The GOP knows this, of course, which why they asked him to change the name of his organization so know one would recognize it. Plausible deniability.

Oh, and if you want any more evidence of a deliberate conspiracy by the GOP to suppress the black vote, google "Jim Greer" and see what he has to say about it.

and your obviously not BRIGHT enough that it makes NO DIFFERENCE,the figure everyone see's is 7.8 %.You would not vote for Obama if unemployment was 2% and he found a cure for cancer,so that number means NOTHING to you but to many undecided voters that number IS BELIEVABLE and thats all that matters.Thats an advantage the incumbent has.But your to stupid to understand that

  • ron prevost wrote...
Interesting that 7.8% figure was from the Department of Labor, Not the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Any chance a member of the administration might differ from facts?

BTW - If Obama found a cure for cancer, he'd get the Nobel Prize for Medicine and the thanks of the world. ... But he'd still be a lousy president.

    Voter ID law is good,
when enough time is given tot he voters to get photo ID's. Not all retired or disabled people have gone to the DOL to get one. So making a law so quickly before an election is suspect and because the money backing these laws is only in close swing states and not strong Blue states or even hardcore RED states is a bigger red flag. We are not fools Medved. So why try to baffle us with bullpucky?
