Gay Marriage Issue Actually Helps GOP

Conventional wisdom argues that opposition to gay marriage hurt Republicans in the recent election cycle, but nothing in the numbers suggests that this is true.

In the four liberal states where advocates for same-sex marriage won their victories, the redefinition of marriage proved much less popular than Barack Obama. In Maryland, for instance, Obama cruised to victory with 62 percent of the vote, but same-sex marriage squeaked by with just 52 percent. In other words, more than one out of six of Obama supporters voted with Republicans, not their fellow Democrats, against same sex marriage.

In Maryland, Maine, Washington and Minnesota, opposition to gay marriage averaged more than 48% but Romney averaged only 41%. In other words, traditional marriage is more popular than the GOP itself - providing a way to win over new votes, not to lose them.

    Hmmm
Romney was less popular than gay marriage. Says a lot for the candidate the Rs put up.

Lastly, why are you so arrogant that you think you can tell me that I can't marry someone I love? There are plenty of straight marriages I personally don't agree with, (intergenerational relationships, celebrity marriages that last a couple days) but I do
    No I do not!

You can marry your pet Sasquatch if you desire for all I care. Nobody is stopping you from marring anyone or anything you want. I do not want the government in the marriage business and giving special rights to select vocal minority groups. Like is already happening today under this regime.

If private business or churches choose (Choose being the KEY word here!) NOT to marry certain people or groups, it is their right and I support that right.

I really do not expect my post to make much of an impact because so many here cannot see past their stereotyping of people like me who simply do not approve of what you are doing and posting and are not afraid to come here, or elsewhere, and exercise our first amendment right to disagree publicly and do exactly that!

There is no HATE here! It is simply me, or anyone else, who disagree's with you and your beliefs. Rather they are your own or "suggested" to you people by the regime.

And I can, if I wanted to, very easily pick apart your posts and point out just how hate filled and bigoted they are!

I don't quite know what you are talking about. I never once used the word hate, and I certainly didn't accuse you of being hateful or bigoted. I also only responded to you and what you wrote, not anti-gay marriage people in general. I don't know you, so how would I know if you hate gays? The answer is I don't, therefore I would never accuse you of it.

I actually wonder if you really read my post. I almost completely agree with your first paragraph. The olny thing I don't agree with is that "the regime" is giving special rights to vocal minorities. A lot of people who oppose gay marriage have told me before that I'm not being discriminated against because I can go out and marry a woman if I wanted. They claimed that that meant I had the same rights. That works both ways. Gays didn't get special rights because you or anyone else can have a gay marriage too! Don't want to? Find that idea horrible? That's how I felt each and every time someone tells me I can just marry a woman.

I don't think the government should be in the marriage business, but if they are, they need to allow it for every consenting adult. Churches should be allowed to choose if they want to sanction and perform gay marriage. I've never thought different. I was born and raised Catholic, and I would never ask a Catholic priest to perform a marriage ceremony, or even to use their church. I have no interest in forcing my beliefs on others.

You accuse me of stereotyping you, which I never did. I responded to you. You may try to give me the same benefit and not stereotype me.
