Government Knows Best on Guns - and Everything

The passionate push for gun control demonstrates the liberal compulsion to tell others how to live. Callers to my radio show insist "there's no reason to own assault weapons" or "a gun in the house will more likely kill a family member than an intruder."

If these arguments make sense to you, you're free to avoid guns altogether. But if the family next door feels safer with guns, or enjoys collecting them, why try to control what they keep inside their home? If they're decent folks with no history of violence or mental illness, you have no right to impose your visceral distaste for fire-arms on them.

The left nourishes the foolish idea that government makes better decisions than you do—on how to invest money you earn, what insurance to buy, and how to educate your kids or protect your family.

    US Government Can Pound Sand!
The Fed is getting way too big. Invading everyone's privacy. I don't mean in public because I don't believe anyone can expect privacy in public or in the work place, for that matter. But how we live our lives, what we eat, how often we see a doctor, how we choose to defend ourselves or entertain is none of the governments business. The Constitution is in place for a reason, to protect citizens. There are a lot more provisions than the Right to Bear Arms. Read it. You will find that TOO MANY of our freedoms have been taken away. The government did not give you those rights, and have no business taking them away. Any law that goes against the Constitution is UN-Constitutional and hence, a non-law. People seem to forget we put our reps in office (OFFICE, not POWER) to do a job for US. Not the opposite. They need to be reminded that they took an oath to defend and protect and uphold the Constitution of the United States. NOT how they see fit, but how it is written! This overreach of the Fed is insane and needs to be brought back several notches. Wake up, people, before it's too late. We are facing a tyrannical government with a president over abusing the Executive Orders. EO's are not for law, but for the Executive Branch only. That's why we have separate branches of the government for checks and balances. We must return to that procedure before it's too late. Before we lose all of our Liberties and Freedoms.

Billiards Fan, I distrust Barry just about as much as everyone else. His words and deeds of the past earned him the title "Pinko of the Year" for a couple of years, but the molasses-like movement and perhaps some of the checks and balances of our federal government have kept some of his spoken (and recorded) ideals from becoming a reality. A common belief is that he has gone hog wild with executive orders - his numbers and use of EO's are on par with every president before him. One would have to go back to FDR to find any real deviation from the norm. I would agree with you that the feds crashed through the chicken wire long ago, but, unfortunately, that's the natural progression of things that the masses are no uncomfortable enough to do anything about.

    Such outrage over semi-automatic weapons
If it's un-American to ban semi-automatic weapons, how come the NRA isn't screaming how un-American it is to ban fully-automatic weapons?

Since the Republicans have never proposed legalizing fully automatic weapons, and are thus for the ban, then they too, as Medved put it, have a compulsion to tell others how to live.

But then Republitards are hypocrites on just about every subject.

    SeattleD...must stand for Douch?
Fully auto weapons have been illegal for most people simce the National Firearms Act of 1968. To use your liberal term "Resonable Gun Control", well, that is it. Banning semi-autos is not "Reasonable".

This is why the NRA no longer deserves any respect:
An NRA mole heckling the grief-stricken father of a Newtown victim. These scum have no shame.
