Seizing the initiative in Washington

With an increase in strength in both houses of Congress Republicans must now use that new power to change the direction of the country. Blocking the Obama agenda is important, but it’s not enough: conservatives must fight for change, not just continued stalemate.
Republicans should announce a brief set of clear goals and pledge to bring them to floor votes within 90 days. Here are four solid possibilities:
1) approval of the Keystone XL Pipeline,
2) enhanced border security
3) a reduction of the corporate tax rate, together with closing of corporate tax loopholes, and:
4) an immediate boost in defense spending to lessen the sequester’s impact and to counter rising foreign threats.
Putting such measures on the president’s desk will force him to respond to the Republican agenda, rather than seizing the initiative with more executive action of his own.
