If you love musicals, you’ll certainly want to see “Into the Woods.” Frankly, if you love movies, you may want to see this film. It’s led by an extraordinary cast, including Meryl Streep, and directed by Rob Marshall (“Chicago.”)
For those who aren’t familiar, the classic Stephen Sondheim musical often appears in lists of the greatest musicals ever written.
The one thing the audience should be prepared for is, even though this is a Disney film, it’s really not for kids. Despite the fact that this is just a mashup of a bunch of different fairy tales that Disney has done before, this story is sad, dark and very disturbing – just like the musical.
“Into the Woods” doesn’t work as well as a film as it does on stage, but it works.
