Michael Medved finally watched ‘The Interview’ – and there were funny parts

Part of what you think about when you see a film like “The Interview” is how they could have made it better. How they could have actually made it into a good movie, not just an intermittently entertaining movie.
The opening of the film is funny, you can’t help but laugh. But someone told the film’s co-writers and directors (Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg) that every reference to the rectum is funny. There are so many – a dozen references to human excrement, the rectum. If one is funny, two dozen are even better.
Goldberg and Rogen are responsible for one of the funniest high school movies ever – “Superbad.” Both Rogen and James Franco are great on screen, but it would have been a better film, and I might have come out of it enjoying it, if it hadn’t turned so mean.
Maybe it would have been funnier if Kim Jong Un suffered a different a fate.
Is it worth it? It’s $6 to rent it streaming. If you get a bunch of people together that are curious about it, then maybe. It’s just not a very good movie.
