Big Bucks to Fight the New "Digital Divide"

During the 1990s, liberal politicians led by Al Gore warned about the so-called "digital divide" which left minorities and the poor with less access to the Internet. New figures show that the situation is now reversed, with children in the nation's poorest households devoting ten hours more each week to the internet and TV than middle class kids, wasting time primarily on social networks and video games.

Since this damages school performance, the FCC wants to spend $200,000,000 in taxpayer money to send out "digital literacy trainers" to poor communities to encourage parents to limit access to the internet and other media. As with the old digital divide, there's really nothing government can do: imposing sensible limits on time wasted in front of screens is a job for responsible parents of every income group, not for federal bureaucrats.
