The Disney-Pixar partnership has produced some of the greatest animated movies of all time, and their new release "Brave" looks especially appealing, with its medieval Scottish setting and spunky, flame-haired heroine. But consumers should understand that this ambitious film, despite superb artistry in its animation, is so dark and disturbing that young children may become deeply uncomfortable while watching it.
The story shows a rebellious, teenage princess feeding her mother a magic potion that causes a beastly, perhaps permanent, transformation, with the unrecognizable mother hunted and threatened with death by the father and his followers.
Unlike other Disney animated films, none of the characters are admirable or endearing, and the experience of the film-despite its misleading PG rating-is surprisingly creepy, even for adults. Only moviegoers prepared for this intensity will appreciate the ineptly- named, "Brave."
