Another edition of News Read Real Slow, the feature for listeners who feel that the reason the news baffles you is that we read it too fast.

SAN DIEGO — San Diego’s City Council has voted to deny Mayor Bob Filner’s request that the city cover his legal fees as he battles sexual harassment allegations from eight women.

However, Filner’s lawyer said in a letter today that his gross behavior is the city’s fault, because the city canceled Filner’s mandatory sexual harassment training and never rescheduled.

Therefore he was never told what was appropriate or not.

Let’s take that Real Slow…

The city canceled Filner’s mandatory sexual harassment training and never rescheduled.

Therefore he was never told what was appropriate or not.

Hmmm. Let’s examine this. According to one of the victims, Lisa Curtin, Filner at one point grabbed her left hand, asked if her wedding band was real, pulled her closer to kiss her, at which point she turned away and felt “a very wet, saliva-filled kiss including feeling his tongue on my cheek.”

Should he have known that was unwelcome?

Let’s read that description real slow.

“A very wet, saliva-filled kiss including feeling his tongue on my cheek.”

Hmmm tough call … when you haven’t had the sex harassment training.

I was fortunate, I got my training in the 4th grade when I tried that move on Penny Fredericks who was six inches taller than me. She responded by tying me up with her jump-rope.

Ross: Are we killing car culture? Or is car culture killing the US?

I don’t think the question is whether we're going to "kill" our car culture. The real question is can we stop our car culture from killing the U.S.?
