Former Portland Trail Blazers and University of Washington star Brandon Roy has been named the new head coach of the Nathan Hale High School basketball team.

Seattle Public Schools made the announcement in a release on Friday.

Roy will start coaching the 2016-2017 season.

Roy played his college career at the University of Washington from 2002 to 2006, where he became the 31st player in school history to score 1,000 points. He was named a consensus first-team AP All-American.

In 2006, Roy entered the NBA draft and was selected in the first round (6th overall) by Minnesota Timberwolves. He was traded to Portland on draft night and played with the Blazers until 2011. He finished his career with Minnesota from 2012-2013.

Over his professional career, Roy won the NBA Rookie of the Year award, he appeared in three NBA All Star games, was twice named to the All-NBA teams, placing on the second-team All-NBA in 2009 and third-team in 2010.
