SEATTLE (AP) - Washington forward Shawn Kemp Jr. is expected to be sidelined six to eight weeks after tearing the patella tendon in his right knee.

Huskies coach Lorenzo Romar said Tuesday that Kemp, the son of the former NBA player, doesn't need surgery and should be back in time for the Pacific-12 opener Jan. 5 against Washington State.

Kemp averaged 1.6 points in 28 games last season as freshman.
