Listener letter | Puyallup govt. is addicted to money from traffic cameras

The traffic camera debate resumed in Lynnwood, after city officials held the first public meeting in four years to discuss them.
Council member Shannon Sessions said people who live in Lynnwood have learned to change their driving behavior thanks to the cameras, the Daily Herald reports.
Lynnwood is the only city in Snohomish County that uses traffic cameras, which brought in $2.7 million in ticket revenue in 2015, according to the Herald.
And speaking of traffic cameras …
Speaking of traffic cameras, try driving through Puyallup sometime. You may have to take out a second mortgage on your house to pay all the traffic camera tickets. They make at least as much as Lynnwood, probably more. Most of the cops drive brand new SUV patrol cars, probably cost $100k each. I’m sure they need those all wheel drive vehicles in case they have to do some 4 wheeling to catch the bad guys. Puyallup government is totally addicted to the money from these cameras, it’s like a drug to them.
