Let’s Eat: Places to take out-of-town foodie guests
When guests come to town you want to show them the best Seattle has to offer. This week, Let’s Eat host Terry Jaymes and Seattle Times restaurant critic Providence Cicero worked out a list of Seattle eateries than will impress even the most discriminating foodie guests.
First stop: Pike Place Market
Providence says walking around Pike Place Market is a sure pleaser for any foodie. Outside of sweet samples of market fresh jams and cheese, she says, “There are some wonderful places to eat down there.”
If you’re just doing a day stroll, Providence says don’t miss a crab cocktail at Jack’s Fish Spot.
For dinner, Providence recommends Matt’s in the Market. As well as market fresh seafood, this eatery boasts views of Elliott Bay and the market’s famous clock.
Next stop: Capitol Hill
“You trip over good restaurants up there,” says Providence.
Co-host Terry Jaymes recommends Pike St. Fish Fry. Providence seconds.
“It feels like that place you wouldn’t find on your own,” she says.
Pike St. Fish Fry offers free tastes of their fries every third Friday of the month. There’s also live music every second Sunday at this casual dining spot.
Because foodies love markets, Providence also recommends Melrose Market on Capitol Hill. The market houses well revered establishments Sitka & Spruce, Bar Ferd’nand, Taylor Shellfish, The Calf & Kid artisan cheese shop, and more.
“It’s wonderful,” says Providence.
Another foodie must-stop: Ballard
Terry says it seems like there are more and more great spots in Ballard all the time.
Providence says the Walrus and the Carpenter is a fantastic option for out-of-towners. And while you wait, because it’s often busy, she says take the opportunity to explore all the cool shops and community nearby.
“It’s a very colorful scene,” says Providence.
