Highway closures will put a wrench in weekend travel plans

One major road to football games at CenturyLink Field will be closed all weekend long.
If you plan on attending the Huskies game on Saturday or the Seahawks game versus the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, you will encounter some closures.
Northbound SR 99 will be closed between the West Seattle Bridge and South Royal Brougham Way from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.
Before game time, the left lane of southbound SR 99 will be closed between South Royal Brougham Way and the West Seattle Bridge from 11 p.m. Friday to 11 a.m. on Saturday.
During the closures, crews will put the finishing touches on a new section of SR 99. It features twin, side-by-side bridges. By 5 a.m. Monday, Sept.17, northbound traffic will use the newly completed east-side bridge, while southbound traffic remains on the west-side bridge, which was completed in October 2011.
While the kids may be back in school, there are still plenty of weekend activities – along with those road construction projects across the Puget Sound – to slow you down on the roads.
Saturday, September 15

Seattle Police will escort walkers out of the parking area and onto the course which uses the sidewalks. The event ends at the Memorial Stadium on the Seattle Center grounds.
The walkers may be a distraction for motorists.
Seattle Boats Afloat Show: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Chandler’s Cove

South Lake Union area. Expect more congestion than usual on streets surrounding the lake.
Fiesta Patrias Parade: 11 a.m.
Gathers at 12th Avenue S and S Henderson Street
650 participants
Parade route: Leaves 12th Avenue S and S Henderson Street; moves east on Henderson to 14th Avenue Street . S; north on 14th to S Cloverdale Street ; west on Cloverdale to Eighth Avenue S; north on 8th S to S Rose Street so the South Park Community Center. Seattle Police will escort.
Mobile Food Rodeo: 12 Noon – 7 p.m.
45 mobile food vendors in the South Lake Union neighborhood
10,000 expected
Event will close the following streets from 6 a.m. – 10 p.m.: 8th Avenue N from Harrison Street to John Street; John Street from Dexter Avenue N to Ninth Avenue N; Thomas Street from Dexter Avenue N toNinth Avenue N.
University of Washington Huskies vs Portland State: 1 – 4 p.m.
CenturyLink Field

Expect congestion on streets throughout the area and on major roadways coming into the SoDd areas.
Sunday, September 16
Seattle Row for the Cure: 6 – 10 a.m.
Lake Pocock Rowing Center
670 attending
Event takes place in the Lake Washington Ship Canal and Lake Union. Nor traffic problems expected.

The Washington State Department of Transportation and the Seattle Department of Transportation continue to recommend taking public transit, walking, or biking to these events.
