Ever wonder where those police vehicles are going when sirens blare past your house? GeekWire’s app of the week may be able to help you figure it out.

This week, GeekWire recommends the 5-0 Radio Police Scanner app.

“My wife actually has been using it quite a bit to figure out what the heck those sirens are going around Ballard,” says GeekWire host Todd Bishop.

The app claims to provide access to the “largest collection of live police, firefighters, aircraft, railroad, marine, emergency, and ham radios” around.

“This thing is great because it’s worldwide actually,” says Bishop. “You can drill down into specific communities.”

Scanners available in the app are listed by county, and an integrated map can also pinpoint where the transmission is coming from.

GeekWire’s Todd Bishop recommends the free version of the app, which has ads. A premium version can also be purchased for $1.99.

GeekWire can be heard on 97.3 KIRO FM on Saturday at 7 a.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. Available anytime ON DEMAND at MyNorthwest.com.
